A tool for emotional regulation that works on people and...dogs

Hello Dear Intuitive One
On a recent walk in the forest with my dog buddies, Raspberry and Whiskey, we passed a woman and her little dog who had stepped off the path to make room for us on the narrow trail. Her little dog was clearly stressed and reactive: Ears back, tail down and trying to pull and lunge on her leash. But before she could escalate her behavior, the woman said Four Purely Magical Words to her dog friend: “Be in your body”
“Be in your body, little one.”
The dog settled pretty quickly, focused on her person, her ears relaxed and she let us pass without issue. No barking, no lunging, no scuffles (just a little muttering).
This was intuitive animal communication in action.
This woman had spoken clearly, with intention, and from her heart to her animal friend, helping them both to focus on the common goal and stay in the present moment.
Clarity of intent, heart-centered, focused, presence.
It reads like a recipe for intuitive connection, right?
As intuitive folks, you and I both know how powerful our intuitive gifts are. Between you and me, it still blows me away when I witness how much more powerful our intuitive gifts are when we can put them into action in our daily lives. Our clear intuition makes everything we do more easeful, enjoyable, and sacred. Even simple things like walking our dogs, baking bread, and tending the garden.
Yet too often, we’re so quick to forget to tap into our intuition when we’re doing everyday things, like when we’re in line at the market and that dude is standing wayyy too close to us, or when we are trying to just get shit done so we can relax.
I’d love nothing more than for you to have even a few extra moments today to tap back into the power of your own intuition, and to be reminded of the sacred power it has to enhance everything you do from this point on in your day.
So, Dear Intuitive one, let’s tune-in together for a moment and do just that. Right here, in this moment.
Be in your body.
I invite you to reconnect with your body, take just a moment and catch up, just like you would when you bump into an old friend… listen to what’s current, and what’s new. I invite you to slip out of the mental space that tells you your body is good or bad, and for a moment put on your intuitive-inner-goggles that allow you to sense your body as the amazing sacred temple that it is.
Use your inner vision to trace your whole body from INSIDE of your own skin, from the top of your crown to the soles of your feet. As you do, perhaps, offer a heaping dose of gratitude to your body for all the wondrous things it does without even being asked, like digesting your lunch, regulating your body temperature, and dishing those feel-good Dopamine hits when you think about baby goats playing and jumping.
When you’re feeling more grounded, tap into the energy of your heart-center for a moment. Feel the gooey-love-goodness you embody there. If it’s been a while since you tuned-in to your heart, it can help to physically place your hand there and think about something you're grateful for, like strawberries, puppy breath and twinkly starlight.
And here.. in this moment as you’re tuning in, perhaps you're moved to offer some focused intentful gratitude to your intuition. Thank your intuition for all it does for you, including how it guides you and helps you feel connected to the sacredness of life. Lastly, if you are called to do so, offer your intuition an official welcome into more areas of your life, give it an open invitation to stop by when you're folding laundry, making lunch and... walking your dogs.
Thanks for tuning in with me today. I am grateful for you and for our connection.
XO
Joanna
P.S. If you have been feeling blocked from tuning-in with your animals and could use a hand understanding what the are needing from you right now, let’s connect. You can set up a time to work with me using the yellow button bellow
Conversations with Animals
Let's chat: Animal names
Photo: Whiskey, a master teacher of Bliss and Joy, Whiskey.
She’s the upside-down dog in the photo, the one enjoying the sun on her belly as she wiggles around!
When Whiskey and her sister first came to live with us, they were 10. Neither Steve nor I are drinkers and so it felt a little weird that her name was Whiskey. We tried to change it. We called her Lady, Lucy and even Missy. Each time we did this, Ms. smarty pants would look right at us, confused and say “What? You know my name is Whiskey!”
When I finally sat down and had a proper conversation with her about her name, she shared that she didn’t really know what alcohol was. To her, her name was about whisking. She said with pure joy “Whiskey it’s like when someone is whisk’en up something good in the kitchen.”
From that point her name stuck. Whiskey. When this sweet girl gets the chance to meet children (which she LOVES) and they ask her name, it is so helpful to have Whiskey’s own story about her name handy to tell kids who also don’t know what alcohol is!
Tuning-in with your animals and asking them how they feel about how you address them is a great starter question for intuitively communicating with your own pets.
Tip: When you have this conversation, be sure to ask them about the nicknames they prefer too. Be sure to use the nicknames your animals request in everyday life with them! It will go a long way in helping your animals feel heard and that they truly belong.
