Energetic survival skills for empaths: how to handle reentry with less anxiety

If you have been feeling overwhelmed by new-normal social obligations… or just having to see people again, you’re not alone. If you have been feeling exhausted, you’re going to love the exercise I’m going to share today. It’s all about creating an energetic boundary so you don’t get bulldozed by other people’s energies.

Plus: I have a new self-care bundle I am super excited to tell you about!

Hello Dear Intuitive One

We’re officially entering new territory as things open up and as invites to weddings, barbecues and in person events fill our inboxes once again. If you’ve been having big complicated feelings about it all, you're not alone. I’ve been hearing from so many intuitive empaths like us who are navigating all the feelings right now!

Exhaustion, overwhelm, stress, the full-body feeling that yells, “I don’t wanna leave my house!” (even for fun things, even with people you like).

Yes, it’s amazing that we can finally say “YES!” to all the things we LOVE: hugs, road trips, spending time with folks who we love to the moon and back. Yes! Yes! And... Yes!!

But laced in with these big “YESes!!” is the overwhelm that comes with over-full schedules, spotty energetic hygiene, forgotten self-care, and the now year-dormant habit of saying “yes” when we really want to say “no.

Just in case your anxiety is rising just reading this, let’s anchor into the present moment so all those anticipatory fears can quiet down.

Let’s tune-in together with an energetic boundary practice that will help you connect with yourself, while feeling connected with the Earth, at the same time.

Start by resting your hand on the crown of your head and let the weight of your hand put just a little pressure on your head reminding you to drop back into your body. While you're at it, place your other hand on your belly and let it be your reminder to give yourself a few relaxed belly breaths.

Let your breath be calm and steady. Breathe in ways that draw your attention closer to your own center.

Feel your feet on the floor and remember that giant being, planet Earth is right under your feet.

I invite you to sense the Earth at your feet while you stay connected to the sensations of your hands on your crown and belly, at the same time. Give yourself a moment to practice being in connection with the Earth without merging or grounding to her. (This is such great practice for shifting habits with people too!)

As you practice being in connection with the Earth without merging or grounding to her, it can be helpful to simply give yourself permission to feel your breath, your body and your feelings while also being in connection with the Earth- at the same time.

I’ll remind you, now in this moment, you already know how to do this. It’s a kind of multitasking, noticing two things, you and the Earth at the same time. It feels glorious right?

To finish our tuning-in, I invite you to rest both hands on your lap as you take another full belly breath to nourish this renewed sense of self, in the present moment of here and now.

Thanks for tuning-in with me.

How to carry this renewed sense of connection with you as you re-enter the world.

If being present and connected with your individuality is something you struggled with in the before times, and you can related to all that overwhelm, forgotten self-care, and saying “Yes” when you really want to say, “No Freaking Way”, then learning basic energetic boundary skills are going to rock your world

What you just did, with one hand on your head, the other on your tummy and your feet on the ground — that was connecting to your individual body, as a separate, yet connected, entity. That was boundary work

I know - that’s not how we’re used to thinking of boundaries. Usually, when we talk about boundaries, we’re talking about telling someone “no” or “don’t treat me that way” or “I won’t do X thing.” Boundaries, in that sense, are very much about other people.

This boundary work is just for you. It’s about your relationship with yourself and practicing not losing yourself in the energies around you.

Because, dear Empath, that’s all too easy for you to do. And, it’s what causes so much of the stress and exhaustion we feel in public spaces.

Your energetic boundary is the glue that lovingly holds your body and spirit together. Which is the most vital thing needed to ensure you don’t get bulldozed by the energy of the world as you re-enter the world. Energetic boundaries strengthen your connection with that individual-self goodness you tapped into during our meditation a moment ago.

Energetic boundaries help you be in connection with others, without losing connection with yourself.

I believe creating energetic boundaries is a kind of nourishing self-care that helps draw us closer to our own inner clarity. Talk about a win win.

But, it takes practice. If you’d like to dig deeper into how to honor your energy and sense of individual self as an empath (and not be blindsided by someone else’s bad mood while in the grocery store checkout line, or feel energetically empty after coffee with a friend…), I’ve created bundle to support you.

I call it The Everything Energetic Boundary Bundle!

The bundle includes paperback copies of both of my books, “When Spirit and Earth Meet'', and “Energetic boundaries 101” . Take these books to the beach and wiggle your toes in the sand (a little embodiment practice) while you read.

You’ll also get a deck of “Energetic Boundary oracle cards” with inner-reflection questions to draw your intuitive attention to your own inner knowing, while tuning up your energetic boundaries along the way.

And here’s the thing to remember about boundaries: They’re not just about saying “no”; they’re about being able to say “Yes” to what you really want because you know, without a doubt, who you really are.

Miss Kitty Sassy Pants, like many cats, is a master teacher of boundaries. She knows herself well and doesn’t question her worth or her truth. Which goes a long way in preventing that loss of connection with one’s individuality like we have been discussing.

Most animals are masters at creating clear, loving boundaries. I have a sneaking suspicion that is why so many of us intuitive empaths are surrounded by animals most of the time.

The animals in our lives are fantastic beings to practice the kind of energetic boundaries we have been talking about today. Try hanging out with your animal buddies and exploring what it feels like to be in a loving connection with them, without losing connection with yourself. Explore what helps you stay rooted in your center while feeling the delicious loving feelings of being close… like tapping into the movement of your breath, or feeling your presence from INSIDE your own skin.

Tip: Being able to remain connected with yourself when in close connection with others is one of the MOST important skills for intuitive animal communication. The more you practice it, the clearer your communication with your animals will be!

Thanks for spending a little time with me today. It’s my hope that in the coming days you feel grounded, centered and connected with your clarity.

XO

Joanna
